It's simply inconceivable. How could the adult possibly have noticed the ten year old child stealing his books, only to sneak them back a few weeks later? And for the healer to know as well! Could the whole village know of her exploits?!
Veli: That doesn't make stealing okay, nor does it justify her defacing them with that weird ink... Actually, do you have any idea where she gets the ink from?
Itenus: If anyone would know, it would be you.
Veli: Yeah, well, as much as I would like to monitor her and figure it out, she's clever enough to wait until I'm at work to go off traipsing through the forest.
She is relieved to hear that Veli still thinks she runs off to the forest. Some of the time she does, but most of the time she comes here, to her cozy little hideout. I mean, she doesn't know the word for hideout, but the way she thinks about this place is pretty much that.
Itenus: Yes, she is clever. It's a shame that her mind isolates her from the other children.
Veli: Well, maybe if she actually spent time with them then she could have a few friends.
Itenus: ...
Veli: I didn't mean that, it's just, well... I don't know what I meant.
